I broke my foot.

Warning!! Graphic pictures!!!!

hello everyone!!!

at least my cast was cute!!
I hope everyone is well and fed. Over the holidays we had fun. We played in the snow, we welcomed Christmas and we ate like crazy. Daisy had her second birthday on December 31. I cannot believe she turned 2. It seems like just yesterday she was learning to sit up. I feel bad about ruining her birthday party with my crazy freak accident, but I wrote her an IOU. We were in the middle of celebrating her two trips around the sun, when it happened. We were dancing to Disney sing along songs (my personal favorite vhs) and I went to spin on my right foot and then suddenly...SNAP. Worst pain ever. I looked at my foot and noticed that my bone was raised just under the skin. I could see it.

We rushed to the hospital, which was beginning to fill with drunk people (New Year's Eve)
My busted foot.
They quickly assessed my foot and sent me to Xray. Yes. It was without a doubt broken. I broke my 5th metatarsal, fractured my middle toes, and my ankle. FUN. Immediate order of 12 weeks rest. I fell in the bathroom 2 days later, had to have my cast removed and my foot reevaluated. I had now broken the middle toes completely. I got another cast. Then a week later the swelling caused compartment syndrome and they cut the cast off again. Then finally I went into a boot, then was told several days later that the weight of the boot was preventing my foot from healing properly. gah,

Cuddling with my big two year old baby.

I'm not looking at this as a total negative. I'm getting more time with my girls since I'm off of work, but I can't play with them like I usually do. I'm mainly confined to the couch. But they help me and I've gotten some wonderful cuddles. Laila and my husband Jeff have really stepped up and helped me. The house is messier than normal, but I'm trying to relax. I'll be up doing chores soon enough.

I've made an emergency basket that I keep beside me on the couch. The contents include Tylenol for pain. ibuprofen for swelling, chapstick, a pen and sticky notes, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, bottled water, lotion and my books that I'm currently reading.

Decorating my cast.
I've learned to slow down, breathe more deeply, stare out of the window more often and I have soooo much more respect for people in wheelchairs and on crutches. I'm excited to get back to being a fully functioning human and also enjoying this time off of my feet. I'll keep you all updated on the healing process!

Talk to you all soon!
love,
The Happily Hobbling Mom
